Conservation Education
In achieving the goals of quality conservation education for future stake holding community there is a great need to reach local schools and colleges to broaden their vision to understand the neighboring issues pertaining to environment, conservation and specifically “Man animals conflicts”, “Forest Fire and Conservation Programs” “Eco System Services”. WCF has been working on this subject since 2006, completed 400 nature camps to high schools and colleges, reaching 15,000 students – 2000 teachers, farmers, Forest Department Staff. Established 18 “ECO CLUBS” especially in high pressure areas in high schools and colleges in the surrounding stake holding villages of Bandipur and Nagarahole Tiger Reserves and yearned long term solution.
To facilitate holistic approaches and to reorganize text book conservation questions into practical educational reaches. “Nature Camps” act in proclaiming the need for conservation as subsistence in every student. By building capacity among younger generation and to save the forest we need momentous inputs regularly throughout the year and manage activities pertaining to local issues of conservation concern, especially “Man Animal Conflict”. Keeping this as an intellect we have succeeded austerely and outreached accordingly, WCF tends to expand this concept and widen the conservation fact by encouraging “Eco Clubs” and its active participation in field throughout the year. As a part of “Forest Fire and Conservation Program” WCF will continue to educate people about the ill effects of forest fire on ecology, wildlife and also for all of us.
We at WCF are working with students, journalists, forest department staff, general public and farmers as a precautionary indices and helping forest staff to contain fire from spreading. Our annual program included visiting 75 schools and colleges in the surrounding villages of Bandipur and Nagarahole and Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple (BRT) Tiger Reserves, it also comprised of the following activities,
- Pamphlet and poster distribution
- Street plays in the surrounding villages of Bandipur and Nagarahole Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple (BRT) Tiger Reserves
- Jathas in the surrounding villages of Bandipur and Nagarahole Tiger Reserves
- Film shows on the ill effects of forest fire in schools and colleges
- Basic fire workshop to volunteers in Bandipur Tiger Reserve and Bangalore
Forest Fire and Conservation Program in Progress – to Students, Journalists, Forest Department staff, Farmers and general public.
As a part of the “Conservation Education” program we also outreach through “Nature Camps” to journalists, Forest Department staff, general public and farmers from the surrounding villages of Bandipur and Nagarahole Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple (BRT) Tiger Reserve. It is an outgoing program that has reached its purpose and brought in the conservation effort to the field level.
